CCTV for ESIC Hospital | Healthcare Security Case Study
See how HIFOCUS secured ESIC Hospital with advanced CCTV surveillance, ensuring patient safety, compliance, and 24/7 monitoring.

Solution Overview
ESIC Hospital, Ayanavaram, is one of Chennai's two Employees' State Insurance Scheme hospitals, functioning under India's Ministry of Labour and Employment. It operates as a full-service medical centre running OPD services, emergency care, cardiology, gynaecology, orthopaedics, and a separate blood bank facility, serving thousands of ESI-registered workers and their families every single day.
A hospital of this scale doesn't sleep. Patients arrive through the night. Staff rotate across shifts. Visitors move through corridors at all hours. Running quietly in the background is the need to keep every person on those premises safe, and every piece of medical equipment accounted for.
When ESIC Hospital Ayanavaram approached Hi-Focus, the brief was straightforward. The existing security infrastructure wasn't built for the volume of activity the facility now handles. They needed a surveillance system that could keep up.

Challenges
The Security Challenges Facing a High-Footfall Government Hospital
Government hospitals in India face a specific set of surveillance challenges that commercial facilities don't. There's no entry fee, no registration gate, no natural chokepoint that filters who walks in. A hospital like ESIC Ayanavaram sees a continuous, largely uncontrolled flow of people - patients, attendants, contract staff, vendors, and visitors, across a campus with multiple buildings, parking areas, and entry points.
Uncontrolled access to sensitive zones was the first and most pressing concern. Areas like the pharmacy, blood bank, and ICU require restricted access, but without camera coverage there was no way to monitor who entered, when, or whether they were authorised to be there.
Long hospital corridors, stairwells, and the basement parking lot had no consistent camera coverage either. These blind spots meant that incidents, whether theft, patient falls, or disputes between attendants, went entirely unrecorded.
When something did happen, the security team had to rely on eyewitness accounts. There was no footage to review, no timeline to reconstruct, and nothing in place to deter repeat incidents. The emergency entrances and outdoor areas also needed to remain monitored after dark, which is an area where older camera systems consistently fall short.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has in recent years emphasised CCTV surveillance across central government healthcare facilities as a tool for operational accountability, not just perimeter security. ESIC Ayanavaram needed a system that could serve both purposes.

What We Offer
The Surveillance Solution Hi-Focus Put in Place
Hi-Focus designed and deployed an integrated IP camera network across ESIC Hospital's indoor and outdoor zones, covering the critical areas the hospital administration had flagged as priorities.
4MP IP Dome Cameras were installed across patient wards, OPD waiting areas, hallways, and the pharmacy. The dome form factor provides wide-angle coverage while remaining unobtrusive in a clinical setting. At 4MP resolution, footage is detailed enough for accurate identification even in busy, high-movement areas.
Both the dome and bullet cameras deployed here use dual-light imaging, combining IR illumination with colour imaging to ensure usable footage regardless of ambient light. This matters specifically in hospital environments where corridor lighting is often dimmed during night shifts and outdoor areas have inconsistent illumination throughout the premises.
Weatherproof IP Bullet Cameras were positioned at the hospital's main entrance gates, outdoor parking areas, and the building perimeter. Built for outdoor deployment, these cameras maintain image quality in Chennai's heat and humidity without any performance drop.
At select access points, camera units with built-in microphones and speakers were deployed, allowing the security desk to communicate directly with individuals at entrances. This proved particularly useful for managing entry during peak OPD hours and after visiting hours when access needed to be controlled without deploying additional personnel.
